Contents of the training

As a Road Construction Worker, you are part of our civil engineering team and actively contribute to the development of construction areas, the construction of roads and parking lots, or the preparation and finishing of areas for industrial buildings. In most cases, you are among the first on site, transforming empty meadows or other areas into a genuine construction site.

First, you survey the terrain to determine the exact location for the road by comparing it with your construction plan. Then, the future construction site is secured. This means you set up barricades, traffic signs, and sometimes even a traffic light system to prevent accidents with pedestrians and road users. Quickly remove any bushes and trees that are in the way, and then it’s time for the earthworks. Using heavy equipment such as wheel loaders and excavators, the top layer of earth is removed, and the underlying soil is leveled and compacted. This is followed by a sub-base layer of piled sand, gravel, and anti-frost aggregate, and the lateral edging of the road. For this, you install curbs made of concrete elements or paving stones. In some cases, the sidewalk is paved at the same time.
You must not forget the drainage channels, which, together with the correct gradient of your road, ensure that no water remains on the traffic surface. Depending on the construction site, sewer and water pipe construction are also among your tasks, as the pipes usually run under or next to the road. Finally, it is asphalted, and the road is complete.

Duration and procedure

During your 3 years of training, in addition to your time with us at the company, you also spend several months in vocational school – because theory is always essential. Here you learn everything about the materials used, reading and creating plans, earthworks, and much more. After the first two years of training, you will be so proficient that, upon successfully passing the intermediate examination, you will already have the qualification as a Civil Engineering Specialist.

The third year of training provides you with even more in-depth specialized knowledge, so that by the end of your apprenticeship, you will be fully prepared and successfully pass the journeyman’s examination.
