With a slight pressure on the crane control joystick, the concrete beam slowly lifts from the formwork into the air. This is the moment of truth. Your gaze carefully inspects the beam. No cracks, no impurities, no deformations. Finely porous and smooth, the 35 tons of reinforced concrete shimmer in the hall’s light. Even after 3 years of apprenticeship, it remains a rewarding feeling.

Contents of the training

Columns, beams, walls, ceilings, special components… in our precast plant in Mindelheim, a wide variety of precast concrete elements are produced. The majority of these are then assembled on our construction sites. To ensure all parts fit together precisely on site, it is crucial to manufacture the components in the plant exactly according to plan, as every centimeter counts on the construction site. The quality standards regarding the properties and composition of the concrete are also high. For example, a bridge beam will later be subjected to significant loads and must reliably last for many decades. For you, this means you must work precisely and keep all components in mind. We will teach you how to do this step-by-step during a 3-year apprenticeship.

To produce a precast concrete element, you will first learn to read the construction plan and build a precisely fitting formwork according to its specifications. Once the formwork is set up, the steel – known as reinforcement – is anchored within it. This ensures that the concrete will not simply break apart later. This is followed by concrete pouring, curing, demolding, and finally rework & quality control. The exact composition of the concrete depends on the requirements of the precast element. Our concrete mixing tower with its own quality laboratory is responsible for this. You will also visit this facility during your apprenticeship.
Last but not least, a construction site visit is scheduled. There you will see how the precast elements you produced fit together precisely like Lego blocks.

Duration and procedure

After the first year, you will already be able to build formwork, produce precast concrete elements, and know the general operational procedures by heart. The second year involves the production of factory-installed components, prestressed concrete beams, and precast constructions. In the third year, you will be quite independent and have mastered your craft. For the theoretical background, you will regularly attend block instruction at a vocational school throughout the entire period.
