Contents of the training

As a Civil Engineering Drafter, you translate the designs of architects and structural engineers into technical construction plans. This means you create a kind of “construction manual” for the respective buildings. Based on your plans, colleagues on the construction site and in the precast plant know exactly what needs to be done and how the building is assembled. Therefore, you must work precisely, otherwise your errors will be visible later on the finished object. We will teach you how to do this during your training.
Work is primarily done on the computer, where you build the object as a 3D model using a CAD (Computer Aided Design) program. Subsequently, 2D views are created from the 3D model, on which the dimensioning is carried out. You learn to draw formwork and reinforcement plans for precast concrete elements and in-situ concrete, as well as to create workshop orders for our installation and assembly parts. Building statics, transportability of concrete elements, and material properties are just some of the points you must consider.

The projects that come across your desk are as diverse as the buildings we construct: from paper factories to car dealerships, production halls, office buildings, residential complexes, all the way to swimming pools and zoo facilities – almost everything is included.
You will experience firsthand what happens to the constructed precast elements after your drawing during internships at our own precast concrete plant in Mindelheim and on our construction sites. You will complete internships at the precast plant in your first and third year of training. Site visits take place in the second year of training.

Duration and procedure

The training usually lasts 3 years. However, with good performance (or a higher school leaving certificate), you can shorten it to 2.5 or 2 years.
As the training is dual, you regularly attend vocational school in addition to your time with us. In the first year of training, you alternate between 2 days at school and 3 days with us in the company. In the second and third years of training, you will have block instruction.

The intermediate examination is after 1.5 years. The final examination is at the end of the apprenticeship.
