Contents of the training

The role of a mason is one of those professions that even children can envision. However, it is by no means child’s play. From the foundation to the final gable stone, as a mason, you are responsible for the construction of the entire building shell. Accordingly, your tasks are highly diverse.
One of the first things you learn is how to correctly read plans, providing you with the necessary orientation to determine where each wall will stand or the required size of the foundation. Once you have mastered this, work can begin: First, you will form and pour the foundation. Subsequently, you will construct the walls, either by installing precast concrete elements, forming and pouring concrete on-site, or building them with masonry units. It is crucial to work precisely and ensure all measurements are accurate. Therefore, spirit levels, plumb lines, and modern surveying equipment such as tachymeters are among your frequently used tools. Depending on the construction project, you will work with various types of masonry units. For instance, large-format sand-lime bricks are typically used in industrial construction, while clay bricks are common in residential building. For ceilings or stairs, concrete is your primary material. Here, you will work with precast concrete elements or cast-in-place concrete. This means you must also master formwork and concrete processing.
In summary, as a mason with us, you can expect a wide range of exciting tasks. We offer opportunities across a wide variety of construction sites, including industrial halls, bridges, and residential buildings. You do not need to fear excessively heavy physical labor. While you will certainly need to lend a hand occasionally, all heavy loads are handled by machinery.

Duration and procedure

Like most apprenticeships, the masonry apprenticeship is designed for 3 years. During this period, vocational school and practical work at our company alternate. You can achieve an initial qualification after just 2 years: your intermediate masonry examination, which also serves as the final examination for the structural construction worker qualification.

In the final year of your apprenticeship, your knowledge from the first 24 months will be further deepened, and your expertise in masonry will be refined. After successfully passing your final examination, you will finally be a journeyman and can truly launch your career.
